Kurt Morriesen was named head of investment stewardship at Legal & General Investment Management, a spokeswoman confirmed Tuesday.
Starting in January, Mr. Morriesen will replace Sacha Sadan, who recently left to become head of ESG at the U.K. financial services watchdog Financial Conduct Authority.
Mr. Morriesen will lead LGIM's global investment stewardship team, reporting to Michelle Scrimgeour, CEO of the firm.
He will hold companies to accounton issues such as climate change, board independence and diversity on behalf of investors, according to a news release Tuesday.

His experience with international organizations at the frontier of sustainable development will be invaluable as we continue to reinforce our market-leading investment stewardship approach and extend our already award-winning global team," Ms. Scrimgeour said in the release.
Mr. Morriesen was senior adviser for impact investments and sustainable development goals at the United Nations Development Programme since 2018.
Legal & General Investment Management had £1.3 trillion ($1.8 trillion) as of June 30.
