Shao Ping Guan will join Allianz Global Investors on July 1 as head of China equity in Hong Kong, according to a statement on Tuesday.
Mr. Guan will become the lead portfolio manager for AllianzGI's China A-share strategies, replacing senior portfolio manager Anthony Wong, who will leave the company on June 30. Mr. Guan's fund management duties will be supported by deputy portfolio manager Kevin You.
Mr. Guan will also lead the China equity team of 12 portfolio managers and analysts, which the firm will continue to expand under his leadership, the statement said.
He will report to Raymond Chan, chief investment officer of equity for Asia-Pacific.
Mr. Guan joins from Goldman Sachs Asset Management, where he has led the China equity team since 2017 and is listed as a portfolio manager for the GS China Equity Fund.
He has been with the firm since 2007, and has a 26-year career in the industry across firms such as GSAM, UBS Asset Management, Credit Agricole Asset Management, AXA Asset Management and OUB Asset Management.
Nathan Lin and Christine Pu have been named his replacement as co-heads of China equity at Goldman Sachs Asset Management and have already started in their new roles, a spokeswoman confirmed.
Mr. Lin is a managing director at GSAM, while Ms. Pu is listed as a portfolio manager for the GS China Equity Fund. Both have been with the firm for 15 years and are based in Hong Kong.
