Charlie Lanchester was named chief investment officer at Hearts and Minds Investments, known as HM1.
He replaces Rory Lucas, who has resigned "to pursue other interests", the company said in an Australian Securities Exchange filing on Tuesday. Mr. Lucas was the inaugural CIO, having joined the firm in 2018.
Mr. Lanchester will join the firm on April 12. He was previously the head of fundamental Australian active equities at BlackRock, where he managed several Australian equity funds.
A BlackRock spokeswoman responded to questions about his departure with an article published in January that detailed the restructuring of the High Conviction Australian Equity Fund and the closure of two other funds after a consultant's review. BlackRock signed a memorandum of understanding with Pendal Group to manage the remaining fund, and Mr. Lanchester and his fellow portfolio managers left the firm as a result of the changes.
Before BlackRock, Mr. Lanchester held senior investment roles at Perpetual Investments, Platinum Asset Management and Schroder Investment Management.
"We are delighted to have someone of Charlie's experience and caliber to select and manage HM1's suite of Core and Conference Fund Managers and oversee HM1's investment portfolio," Chairman Chris Cuffe said in the filing.
HM1's current assets under management was not immediately available.
