Antonio "Tony" DeSpirito was appointed to global chief investment officer, fundamental equities at BlackRock, a newly created role.
Mr. DeSpirito, a managing director, previously was co-CIO for fundamental equities.
His fellow co-CIO — Nigel Bolton — will retire in July, confirmed a BlackRock spokeswoman. Mr. Bolton also is a managing director and is co-CIO for fundamental equities covering Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Mr. DeSpirito will continue to manage BlackRock's $19 billion BlackRock Equity Dividend Fund and other funds, the spokeswoman said.
Other changes at BlackRock include the promotion of Helen Jewell to CIO of the EMEA region. Previously, she was deputy CIO for EMEA. Carrie King, a managing director, was promoted to CIO of the U.S. and developed markets. She was global deputy CIO.
The predecessors in these new roles for Ms. Jewell and Ms. King were not available nor were their replacements.
As of March 31, BlackRock managed a total of $9.1 trillion, including equity strategies.
