Karen Karniol-Tambour was promoted to co-chief investment officer at Bridgewater Associates, the firm's third co-CIO, effective immediately.
She joins Robert Prince and Greg Jensen in overseeing the firm's investments, according to a company memo to the firm's clients Thursday.
Ms. Karniol-Tambour joined Bridgewater in 2006 as an investment associate on the firm's fixed-income team straight from college and seven years later, became head of investment research, Mr. Jensen said in the company memo.
Most recently, she was co-CIO for sustainability with Carsten Stendevad. She will continue to work with Mr. Stendevad in her previous role, but she will not retain the title of co-CIO for sustainability and won't be replaced, a spokeswoman said.
"We are lucky to have her leading at the highest level of Bridgewater and I'm thrilled to have her partnering even more closely with our leadership team going forward," Mr. Jensen said in the company memo.
Bridgewater has a total of $125 billion in assets under management, according to Bloomberg.
